The 1E BIOS to UEFI OEM task sequence step uses the HP BIOS Configuration Utility (BiosConfigUtility.exe) to make firmware changes on HP systems. If the Create 1E OEM Toolkit Package wizard is used to download the HP BIOS Configuration Utility, it will download version 4.0.24.1, released September 2017 (https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81841.exe).
A current, definitive list of HP models or platforms that are supported by the HP BIOS Configuration Utility does not appear to be available from HP. The HP BIOS Configuration User Guide states:
"BCU requires HP custom WMI namespace and WMI classes (at the namespace root\HP\InstrumentedBIOS) provided by BIOS. BCU will only support models with a WMI-compliant BIOS, which are most commercial HP desktops, notebooks, and workstations. Before running BCU, it is helpful to make sure that the HP BIOS WMI classes are in the namespace root\HP\InstrumentedBIOS. When using BCU in WinPE, ensure that the WMI component is added to the boot image using Microsoft® Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool."
Updating the OEM Toolkit Package with a later version of the HP BIOS Configuration Utility
It is possible to update the OEM Toolkit package created by the OEM Toolkit Wizard with a later version of the HP BIOS Configuration Utility. The process involves downloading and extracting the required binaries and replacing them in the source location for the OEM Toolkit Package originally created by the wizard.
Using a later version of the HP BIOS Configuration Utility than the version downloaded by the wizard may cause unexpected behavior as each version of the 1E BIOS to UEFI tool is tested with the version that was current at the time of development and stated above in this documentation.
- Download the later version from HP (refer to http://ftp.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/cmit/HP_BCU.html for current version information).
Start a command prompt with admin rights and run the following command (replacing spxxxxx.exe with the file you downloaded).
spxxxxx.exe -fC:\TEMP\HP -s -e
- Delete C:\Temp\HP\setup.exe (this file is not required in the package)
- Copy all remaining files from C:\Temp\HP to the HP folder in the source location of the existing 1E OEM Toolkit package, replacing the original files.
- Update the package content on Distribution Points.
