How to quickly install 1E Catalog and verify the installation is successful.

When installing or upgrading 1E Catalog on a Tachyon 4.x or later server, the only supported method is to use Tachyon Setup.  Installation using a standalone MSI is not supported unless advised by 1E, which may be necessary in complex installations, using non-interactive (quiet/silent) command-lines, and may require post-install configuration steps. Please refer to Tachyon 5.0 - Tachyon Setup for installing 1E Catalog on a Tachyon 5.0 server.

When installing or upgrading 1E Catalog on a SLA Platform 3.3 server, ensure you use the correct version of 1E Catalog before you install any of its companion products. In particular, SLA needs to refer to an existing 1E Catalog implementation during its own installation. Please refer to 1E Companion Products for details of correct versions.

The following process is only supported for SLA Platform 3.3, or for a remote Catalog server that is part of a Tachyon 5.0 system

To follow these steps successfully you should have appropriately configured your:

  • Installation account
  • Service accounts

And you are logged on using the installation account.

These steps are intended for a quick run-through of 1E Catalog installation and verification. For more details on the preparation and prerequisites refer to the Implementing 1E Catalog section.

Install 1E Catalog

  1. Locate the 1ECatalog.msi
  2. In a command-prompt run as Administrator  navigate to the 1ECatalog.msi directory then enter the following command:

    >msiexec /i 1ECatalog.msi /l*v CATInstaller.log REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS

This starts the installer interactively with elevated permissions. This command-line also creates a CATInstaller.log for the installation, which is good practice and may be used for troubleshooting.

  3. On the 1E Catalog - InstallShield Wizard click Next on the Welcome screen
  4. On the License Agreement screen select the I accept the terms in the license agreement option and click Next.
  5. On the Destination Folder screen click Next to accept the default.
  6. On the Service account screen use the default Use Network Service account option.
  7. On the 1E Catalog configuration screen select the database server to target in Database server that you are installing to: by clicking Browse... and choosing from the displayed list of servers. Leave the Name of database catalog: as the default of 1ECatalog and leave the Enable download of model file updates checkbox to its default of unchecked. Then click Next.
  8. On the Prerequisite Checks screen the installer will then run through a set of specific checks that must be passed before the installation is allowed to continue. A significant check is that the installation account has dbcreator  and securityadmin rights on the target database instance. In our example all of the checks pass. Click Next to continue.
  9. On the Ready to Install the Program screen click Install to start the installation
  10. You will see the progress for each step of the installation. Be aware that certain steps in the installation, such as Importing Content and Splitting Versions may take several minutes to complete.
  11. If the installation succeeds you will see the InstallShield Wizard Completed screen. Click the Finish button to close the installer wizard.

Verify installation

To verify the installer has installed the correct components and that they are working, check the 1E Catalog:

  • Website
  • Update Service
  • Database

Verify the 1E Catalog website

  1. In IIS manager click on the Application Pools node - confirm there is a CatalogWeb Application Pool using the network service account as the Identity.
  2. Expand Sites and then the Default Web Site - confirm that a CatalogWeb site has been created.
  3. Select CatalogWeb and then click on the Browse *:80 (http) link under the Browse Application heading - confirm the 1E Catalog website is opened in your default browser.

Verify the 1E Catalog Update Service is running

  1. In the Services control panel make sure the 1E Catalog Update Service is running.
  2. Make sure the Log On As column shows the service account specified during installation.

Verify the 1E Catalog database

  1. In Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio connect to the instance where you installed 1E Catalog database.
  2. Check that the 1ECatalog database is listed under the Databases node
  3. Expand 1ECatalog and then expand Security and Users.
  4. Check that the service account specified during installation has been added as a user.
  5. Expand the 1ECatalog→Security→ Roles→Database Roles node and confirm that the RoleCatalogUser has been added.
