Upgrading to WakeUp Server 7.3
You can upgrade WakeUp Server 7.2 or 7.2.500 to 7.3 directly. Older versions of WakeUp Server must be upgraded incrementally to their next version. Please contact 1E Support if that is not practical.
Information on general installation options and its prerequisites can be found in Installing the WakeUp server. Please review Upgrading NightWatchman Enterprise: Technical preparation to ensure that the existing 1E software installation folder hierarchy is backed up before running the upgrade.
Please refer to Installing the WakeUp server: Integrating WakeUp server with a distributed Configuration Manager setup for advice on how to configure WakeUp Server for this type of installation. This is where the Configuration Manager WMI provider (its "SMS Provider") is installed remotely from the Configuration Manager Site Server.
The process to upgrade an existing WakeUp Server to 7.3 is:
When running the WakeUp Server installer, accept all default options except where stated.
On the Customer Information screen, enter your license key.
On the Destination Folder screen, if WakeUp Server has been installed in a non-default location, ensure that the 7.3 path matches – click Browse and navigate to the correct location.
On the Installation Type screen, ensure that the correct installation mode is selected. If running on an Configuration Manager Site Server, the installer automatically selects Microsoft Configuration Manager Integration.
On the Installation Options screen, ensure you choose the same settings as your original WakeUp Server installation.
On the NightWatchman Management Center Configuration screen, ensure you use the same reporting server and service account you used for your original WakeUp Server installation.
Post-upgrade
After the upgrade, start the WakeUp Console and check all tabs to ensure your settings have been preserved.
Restart the NightWatchman Console and on the Settings tab, check that the WakeUp integration settings are enabled and that the correct server is selected for the WakeUp provider. If incorrect, these can be modified via the NightWatchman Console, and applied by selecting the Apply button.
Previous versions required that a single WakeUp Server was registered with the NightWatchman Management Center. From version 6.0.500 onwards multiple WakeUp Servers can register and handle wake up requests. Settings are preserved during an upgrade, however, depending on the previous version, there may be new settings available within the WakeUp Console.
Validation
We recommend running these tests to validate functionality:
On-demand WakeUp for an individual computer from the NightWatchman Console
On demand WakeUp for an individual computer from the Configuration Manager Administrator Console
Scheduled WakeUps for collections of computers from wake up enabled mandatory assigned Configuration Manager advertisements, software updates and task sequences
On demand WakeUp for an individual computer from Web WakeUp (if installed)
At this point, the main server functionality has been tested and if all the above steps have been validated then the upgrade has been successful. Repeat the upgrade process using the above steps for all other WakeUp Servers (working down the hierarchy) until all have been upgraded successfully.
