License Summary page

A description of the fields on the License Summary page.

Here you can view your License Summary. You get to this page by clicking the AppClarity→Compliance→License Summary node in the navigation panel.

The fields on the License Summary page are:

Field

Description

Management group selector

Certain pages in AppClarity have a management groups selector. This drop-down lets you select the management group you are interested in. By default this is set to Global.

Compliance repository selector

This field lets you select the repository where the compliance data displayed on the page comes from. By default this is set to Default Compliance.

If you have created your own compliance repositories, click on the name to select these from the drop-down list.

Report Refresh

You can refresh reports from individual AppClarity screens as well as using the Settings App. Where this is available you can do this by using the refresh icon next to the Last Refreshed box:

Column Picker

Where the column picker control is shown Column Picker UI control icon you can choose which columns are displayed. In the following example on the Microsoft Core License Demand page we hide the Unknown Installs column and move the License Demand column to the left of the page.

To pick the displayed columns:

  • Click on the Choose columns icon Column Picker UI control icon to the right of the header row to view the visible columns.

  • To exclude Unknown Installs, select the Unknown Installs row and click Exclude columns button.

  • The Unknown Installs column is now hidden.

  • To move the License Demand column to the top of the list, hover your mouse over License Demand and using the direction control drag it to the top of the list.

  • The Microsoft Core License Demand page has now been automatically updated with our changes.

Action Buttons

The following table describes the action buttons displayed on the License Summary page:

Button

Description

Add License

This button is only enabled when there is a single selection in the License Summary table.

Creates a new license for the selected product and opens the New License page with the details of the product pre-filled. Please refer to New License page for more details.

Add Reclaim Policy

This button is only enabled when there is a single selection in the License Summary table.

Creates a new reclaim policy for the selected product and opens the New Policy page with the details of the product pre-filled. Please refer to <New Policy page placeholder> for more details.

Export

Exports all the entitlements currently displayed in the License Summary table as a TSV file. This button takes the filters currently applied to the table into account, but not the sorting or the current selection.

License Summary table

The following table describes the columns displayed in the License Summary table:

Column

Description

Vendor

The vendor portion of the vendor, title, version and edition attributes that are used to identify software products. For example, Microsoft Corporation or 1E.

Title

The title portion of the vendor, title, version and edition attributes that are used to identify software products. For example, Visio or Nomad.

Total Installs

This column provides a total count of the installations for the product. This may be different from the Total Devices column as some software, such as Microsoft SQL Server, may be installed more than once on a device.

Total Devices

This column provides a total count of the devices where the product is installed. This may be different from the Total Installs column as some software may be installed more than once on a device.

Total Users

This column provides the total users accessing the software across all these devices.

Compliance Category

This column displays a compliance status bar for each product.

This bar displays a summary of the compliance status for the product installations in the selected compliance repository, taking into account any entitlements you have added. Hovering over the bar displays a summary of the compliance breakdown for the product. This is divided into Compliant, Non-compliant and Exempt installations.

Clicking on the bar displays the Summary by Installs page for the selected product.

Unknown Installs

This column provides a count of the installations for the product where there are details that are unknown, thereby implying a risk for compliance calculation.

Underutilized Installs

This column provides a count of the installations for the product where the product is rarely used or unused.

Licenses Applied

This column provides a count of the licenses that have been applied to the product. If this number is greater than zero it becomes a link to the Licenses / Maintenances page filtered to show the applied licenses.

Reclaim Policies

This column provides a count of the reclaim policies that have been associated with the product. If this number is greater than zero it becomes a link to the filtered to show the associated reclaim policies.

The following column actions are available on some table columns.

Column sort

Using column sorts

The picture opposite shows an example taken from AppClarity. In our example we want to sort the table on the Cost column from the highest cost at the top to the lowest at the bottom. To sort the table on the Cost column:

  • Click on the sort icon S06_-_The_sort_icon.png just beneath the header row in the Cost column.

  • The sort popup is displayed.

  • Now select the sort direction. In our example this will be Sort descending.

  • After selecting this the data in the table is now sorted on the Cost column from highest to lowest and the sort icon has changed to a sort descending icon

Clearing the sort

You can clear the sort by clicking on the sort icon again and selecting the Clear sorting menu item from the sorting popup.

Column filter

Using column filters

The picture opposite shows an example taken from AppClarity. In our example we want to filter the table to show only those items where the Edition contains the text Prof.

To filter the table on the Edition column:

  • Click on the filter icon F07_-_The_filter_icon.png just beneath the header row in the Edition column.

  • The filter popup is displayed.

  • Now select the operator. In our example this will be contains.

  • Then type the text Prof into the text field.

  • Click Apply and a new filter will be added to the table.

Adding another filter

You can add another filter by clicking on the filter icon F07_-_The_filter_icon.png for any of the columns. The picture opposite shows another filter added selecting table rows where the Type also contains the text License. The table will also be filtered accordingly.

Removing filters

You can remove filters by clicking on the filter close icon F09_-_The_filter_close_icon.png at the end of the filter.

Summary by Installs page

A description of the fields on the Summary by Installs page.

Here you can view summary and detailed information for the installations of a selected product. You get to this page by clicking the Compliance Category bar for a product on the License Summary page.

Field

Description

Management Group Selector

Certain pages in AppClarity have a management groups selector. This drop-down lets you select the management group you are interested in. By default this is set to Global.

Edition Table

The following table shows the column headings in the Edition table:

Edition

The edition portion of the vendor, title, version and edition attributes that are used to identify which software product the compliance status relates to.

Compliant

This column provides a count of the compliant installations for the product. When the number is not zero this is a link to a list of devices where the product is installed.

Non-Compliant

This column provides a count of the non-compliant installations for the product.

Exempted

This column provides a count of the exempted installations that are associated with an exemption management group. Please refer to Excluding devices from License Demand Calculation using Management Groups for more details.

Unknown

This column provides a count of the installations for the product where there are details that are unknown, thereby implying a risk for compliance calculation.

Device Summary Table

The following table shows the column headings in the Device Summary table:

Description

Licensed Software

The title portion of the vendor, title, version and edition attributes that are used to identify software products. For example, Visio or Nomad. You can sort on this column.

Licensed Version

The version portion of the vendor, title, version and edition attributes that are used to identify software products. For example, 11.0.3216.5614 or 6.3.100.0. You can sort on this column.

Total License Available

Shows the total number of licenses available for this product from all the entitlements related to it.

Total Consumed

Shows the number of licenses consumed by installations from the total available for this product.

Effective License Position

The effective license position is a calculation of the entitlements for a particular software product against the installations for that product. It may be one of:

  • a negative number, in which case there are more installations for that software product than entitlements

  • zero where the numbers match exactly

  • a positive number, which indicates you have paid for more licenses than you are using.

Your ideal is to get the numbers positive but as close to zero as fits in with your current and predicted demand.

Device Detailed Table

The following table shows the column headings in the Detailed table:

Machine Name

The device name where the software is installed. The name is a link that navigates to the Device Summary page for the selected device in the Inventory application. You can filter on this column.

Management Group

Displays the number of Management Groups a device is associated with. Clicking on the number displays a popup listing the Management Groups. You can filter on this column.

Primary User

This column displays the user name for the primary user on a device. You can filter on this column.

Canonical Version

The canonical representation of the productversion installed on a device.

You can filter on this column.

Edition

The edition portion of the vendor, title, version and edition attributes that are used to identify software products. For example, Standard or - (where no edition exists). You can filter on this column.

Licensed Software

The title for the software installed on a device. You can filter on this column.

License Demand

The license demand for the software on the device where the software is installed.

You can filter on this column.

License Consumed

This column shows the number of available licenses consumed by the software on the device where it is installed.

You can filter on this column.

Status

This column displays an indicator for the current compliance status for the product. You can filter on this column.

Comments

This column provides comments on how the entitlement is applied to the installation. Currently this indicates whether the installation has been exempted or not.

You can filter on this column.

This table also has the following action buttons:

Export

Pages in AppClarity that include an Export all button allow you to export all the data for any tables of information displayed on the page. This may also include columns that are not currently visible in the table display.

Entitlement Summary Table

The following table shows the column headings in theEntitlement Summarytable:

License Vendor

The vendor for the software as defined in the entitlement.

License Title

The title for the software as defined in the entitlement.

License Edition

The edition portion of the vendor, title, version and edition attributes that are used to identify software products. For example, Standard or - (where no edition exists).

License Metric

The metric type for a license or maintenance entitlement. This may be one of:

Type

Description

Core

The metric for the license is related to the number of cores present on a device. For example, licenses for Microsoft SQL database are related to the number of cores on the server where Microsoft SQL is installed.

Device

The metric for the license is for devices. For example licenses for Microsoft Visio are on a per device basis. This is the default type.

Other

This can be used to reference your own license metric type.

Processor

The metric for the license is related to the number of processors for a device. For example, licenses for certain Oracle products are related to the number of processors on the server where the Oracle product is installed.

PVU

The metric for the license is related to the Processor Value Unit present on a device. For example. licenses for IBM products are related to the Processor Value Unit (PVU) for the device where the IBM product is installed.

User

The metric for the license is related to the users for the product. For example, Microsoft Office 365 licenses are related to users and not the devices the software is running on.

Management Group

This column displays the names of the Management Groups an entitlement is associated with.

Total License Units

Shows the total number of licenses units available from an entitlement.

Consumed

Shows the number of licenses consumed by installations from a particular entitlement.

Remaining

Shows the number of licenses remaining for a particular entitlement after subtracting the Consumed licenses consumed from the Total License Units.
